Not a very attractive picture but my reality as I prepare to go to the Hobbycrafts show! I was once accused of being a messy crafter, I prefer to think of it as creative chaos. You never know when 2 disparate things laying next to or near each other spark off the next few ideas. Travelling south today when I get my act together.

This weekend’s Owl is from the Japan Pavilion at Epcot in Orlando, Florida. I could have spent a fortune in the wonderful shop there. I think we went 3 times in the three weeks we were there. He has a little solar panel on his log and his head swings from left to right if he’s in enough light. They had them in several colours but this colourway appealed to me the most. He lives with the rest of his Parliament (the collective term for owls) in my studio.

This little owl is so cheerful and sits next to my printer and brightens up the studio. She is a money box and I found her in Razzberry Bazaar last year. I think all the pastel colours are fun and especially like the white polka dots and painted flowers.

OOOhhh look it’s another Owl!! They seem to be very popular at the moment. This lovely chap or is it a chapess came from Razzberry Bazaar a couple of weeks ago and is hanging next to my rubber stamps in the studio.  I really like the fact that the striped patch on her front is in the shape of a heart. A combination of two of my favourite things.

This is the owl that the lovely Catherine made for me this Christmas. I think she realised how partial I am growing to these delightful creatures. He, (I’m sure it’s a he, as he has that blue stripe) is hanging next to my rubber stamp display in the studio where he complements my blue curtains admirably.

I have a bit of an owl thing going on at the moment. This magnificent chap came to live with me last year via Matalan‘s Christmas decoration department. He stands proudly next to my photo printer in my studio overseeing his domain. Actually, I think he’s probably noticed that my studio needs a good dust!!

These snowflakes have been sitting in a poly wallet for at least 2 years. They came in a pad from K & Co and this year I decided they would be just the thing to decorate my studio window. I’ve taken all the decorations down except these. It’s still winter so they can keep me company for a few more weeks.

This is the little tree that graced my studio over Christmas. It was taken with my Hipstamatic app. Watts Lens, Blanko Noir film and RedEye Gel flash. I love the retro look and warm pink glow.

These are the second pot of hyacinths I have had in the studio this year. They are a gentle mauve colour and their fragrance is filling the studio at the moment. Aren’t they pretty?

This view of the “danglers” in my studio was taken with the Hipstamatic App using the Salvador 84 Lens and Dream Canvas Film with no flash. I really like the way the little butterflies are mirrored.

This is Daisy our 17 year old cat. As I sit at my computer every evening she is my constant companion. She is the chattiest cat imaginable and lets us know in no uncertain terms when she is displeased with the management! Whether this concerns her empty water bowl in the bathroom or the lack of fresh cat food to lick the gravy off, she complains to such an extent we call her” Nag Puss”…… I decided 17 years ago last autumn that I would like a Tabby female and got in touch with the RSPCA. They said they didn’t have one at present but would let me know when/if they had any new kittens. I got a phone call late one night from a very nice lady from Sunderland asking if I still wanted a female Tabby kitten. We arranged for her to meet my husband at the Motorway services on the A1 at Washington Services and for a small donation he received a kitten. We have had several other cats before and also during her lifetime, and to date she is the oldest cat we have ever had the pleasure of sharing our lives with.

I wish you could smell the divine perfume from these hyacinths. I love the way they emerge so suddenly from the soil and the petals unfurl. At the moment they are perched on my studio windowsill and I am looking forward to that heavenly smell greeting me when I open my studio door for the next few days.

I found these cubes in TKMaxx the other day. I think they are just the thing to decorate my studio, where 5 times a week I teach my lovely ladies, all of whom I feel honoured to call my friends.

Today I have been in my studio teaching and this photo was taken with the Hipstamatic app on my i phone. I used the John S lens and Dream Canvas Film with no flash. It makes everything look dreamy and inspirational.  Haven’t been very creative today, perhaps the muse will strike tomorrow?

Today I got around to doing some mending. My daughter Kristy is convinced that my legendary mending pile contains items that have been there for over 20 years and they will probably no longer fit their owners. Who can say? I decided that these two coats would be much better if they had some buttons on them, as it gets a little cold at this time of year in the North East of England and being able to close a coat to the prevailing northerly wind would be a distinct advantage. I also mended a dressing gown……. whoever decided it would be fun to attach the hanging loop on the outside as a design feature had obviously been smoking some illegal substance …..  it’s now inside and can be hung up properly without me trying to put it on inside out !

Whilst teaching today I’ve been scrapping lots of different colours of acrylic paint into my new diary journal (it’s  ring bound A4 cartridge paper that I bought  in Paper Mill last year). I was browsing the net and I came across the idea of diary journalling which I thought would be fun. I have been writing my ordinary diary and also this photo blog, so decided it would be a challenge to create an art journalling record of the year. I’ve yet to create the shapes to journal in, or to decorate the page in any other way, but thought it would be a good idea to take some photo’s of the pages in case I wanted to make prints of my own backgrounds. As you can see my desk didn’t stay clear for long! I’m a bit painty, the desk is a bit painty, but as I always say ” Happiness is being covered in Paint”.

Is this a mirage or are all the desks clear in my studio. It doesn’t happen very often, so decided to record the event for posterity.

How’s this for an arty photo? Taken with my i phone as are all the photos so far this year. I’m really enjoying playing with the Hipstamatic app and this was taken with the Dream Canvas film Berry Pop Flash and Salvador 84 Lens.

After a minor mishap last year when a gold framed mirror tumbled down from between the windows when a stiff breeze blasted through my studio, I purchased an inferior substitute from  B & M Bargains (great store if you’ve never been tempted to enter). It had a white plastic frame and I decided it was a suitable candidate to be alcohol inked. As per usual it was 3/4 completed when something else took my fancy and I abandoned it. So, new year new broom as they say and it’s now complete and adorning my windows. It’s much darker than I first intended and has acquired a bleached look by spraying with Blending Solution. My lovely ladies have commented on how it enhances my studio curtains, a happy accident I must admit.

Continuing my current theme of clearing the decks and preparing for all things new, I spent some of today sticking all those lovely images I’ve printed off into my scrapbooks. For personal use only I might add, but oh so useful for inspiring myself and my students.  I’m loving this kraft and white paper blank book from Paperchase.
